Today Norsk Tipping presented its new gaming terminals to the media. The terminals will now undergo consumer trials at selected locations in the Hamar area during the summer and autumn.
“We are about to embark on a pilot test period for commercial operation of the new terminals. We are in the final stages of development and testing, and are thus far extremely satisfied with the results we have achieved. It goes without saying that we are excited to see what kind of reception our customers will give the new terminals,” says Managing Director Axel Krogvig of Norsk Tipping.
Norsk Tipping has developed a world first in responsible gaming
All players must be registered, which is a decisive factor in achieving genuine and effective enforcement of the strict rules applied to the terminals. Further, this also allows the player to set his or her own limits on the amount of time and money, which can be more restrictive than the defaults stipulated by NT. If a player wishes to exclude him/herself from a game, this can be easily achieved. With a possible maximum loss of 400 kroner per day and 2200 kroner per month, the new terminals are subject to the most stringent gaming rules applied anywhere gaming machines are found.
“This is a world first where we combine new technological solutions and strict rules. The objective is to create an offer of entertainment that is both exciting and highly entertaining while at the same time providing the player with a safe and non-habit forming gaming alternative,” Krogvig tells us.
Grass root share
All profits generated by Norsk Tipping go to Norwegian sports & athletics and cultural causes, and we will now be including humanitarian and socially beneficial organisations as recipients. Next year we will launch the grass roots segment, under which arrangement five percent of the total profits can be channelled to voluntary organisations. The new gaming terminals form an integral part of Norwegian monetary policy and can be the source of up to 500 million new kroner that will be used in support of clubs and organisations nationwide. The new gaming terminals will be an important channel for the registration of clubs and associations the player wishes to support.
“The new terminals from Norsk Tipping will contribute to increasing income for local clubs and associations/organisations. When Norsk Tipping introduces the grass root segment from next year, this will represent a vital and important factor in securing sports and athletics clubs local financial resources that will be directly paid into the club’s or association’s account. The terminals rank as number one in the world with regard to responsible gaming, and the sports and athletics sector gives 100 % support to the roll-out," says Inge Andersen General Secretary of The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF).
“The Norwegian Red Cross has been an active supporting player for the government in the effort to achieve the clean up and introduce restrictions in the Norwegian gaming market. Norsk Tipping’s new terminals are an important contribution in this work. In addition to these benefits, the terminals will contribute to Norsk Tipping’s profits in the years ahead, and this will in turn provide vital revenues for both the Red Cross and other humanitarian organisations,” says General Secretary Trygve G. Nordby of the Norwegian Red Cross.
Council Chairman Einar Busterud of the Municipality of Hamar is looking forward to seeing Hamar become the pilot municipality for the new gaming terminals. “The municipality is confident that Norsk Tipping will conduct the pilot trials in a good and socially responsible manner. I have seen the new terminals in use and am personally happy that these new terminals will place limits on the amount that can be staked and also put pressure on the individual player to think hard about his or her gaming habits. Revenues from Norsk Tipping have contributed to the financing of very many good sports/athletics and cultural events in and around Hamar. Revenues from the new terminals will also help to secure the continued flow of funds in the future.” Says the Council Chairman.
